Volunteers are ARNO?s lifeblood. We couldn't exist without the generous service of our volunteers. Duties include, but are not limited to: 'dishes' (litter pans and food/water bowl scrubbing and disinfecting), laundry, cat cages cleaned, puppy and dog pens cleaned, dogs walked, sweeping/disinfectant mopping, carriers sanitized, light housekeeping in the office/bathrooms, kitten bottle moms (experienced only), night dog-walking team members (over 18, from 6-8pm nightly), manning booths at events, etc.
Donations and volunteers are always needed to continue our invaluable work. ARNO is ALL volunteer, receives no major funding, existing almost entirely on your donations. You can be assured that because we are all volunteer, 100% of your donation goes to the animals for their shelter, medical care, and supplies to keep them clean, healthy and happy. Please consider helping in any way you can.
Post this page to your Facebook, MySpace or Twitter page and crosspost to your friends and associates who care about animals. ARNO's success has always been, and continues to be, dependent upon volunteers. We need many local volunteers to keep the operation running smoothly. ARNO has been blessed with a successful outreach for out-of-state volunteers but there are times when we must call upon our local folks. We know locals are busy with your own rescues, rebuilding your homes, your businesses, and struggling financially. But please consider coming to help us at the shelter on a regular basis... even one day a week for three to four hours is a huge help. (Also search for ?ARNO Shelter? on Facebook and become a fan!)
All volunteers must fill out the online application below, sign a volunteer waiver on their first day at the shelter, and sign in/out the volunteer logbook at the shelter.
Community Service Hours
If you know high school students who love animals, this is a perfect opportunity to put in required community service hours, and a wonderful opportunity to add a bright spot to homeless animals? lives.
- you must love animals;
- you are well-mannered; and
- you take instructions well. ARNO is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit and can schedule court ordered community service hours.
We can only schedule teens under 16 at times when we have enough experienced adults on hand.
How do I sign up as a volunteer?
Fill in the very brief volunteer application below. In the ?experience? section please put why/how you feel you can help as an ARNO volunteer. (Also put if you have any specific allergies to a certain species). Your online application will be answered within 12 hours by our volunteer assistant. She will send you our daily schedule as some duties are only during certain hours of the day/night. Once you receive an email from the volunteer coordinator, please respond with when (day/times) you can volunteer? we schedule all volunteers on a calendar. So please, if you volunteer, be responsible enough to show up on time, or let us know via email that you are not coming and cannot make your commitment. We do not ?overbook? volunteers, so if you are scheduled you will be needed.
The shelter is located at 271 Plauche St., New Orleans 70123; in the Elmwood business park area off Edwards Ave. (turn on corner with Cox Communications office, that is Plauche Street.) There are also ?directions? to our shelter if you need them.
We promise you this? you will get more than you give!
